That's why I recommend keeping a separate backup of it elsewhere before doing another Time Machine backup. That recursive delete is less destruction the larger your backup drive. The larger your Time Machine drive, the more archives it will store on an automatic basis, and you can recover stuff you manually delete from the original if it doesn't wipe it out on its recursive wipe it does on information it can't keep in storage indefinitely. The odds of two separate backups failing simultaneously is much less than one.

The archive sequence is not very well controlled, unless you always make a manual backup with it, and then turn it off, and archive the instance of Time Machine to another destination that you don't change.Įither way, it is highly recommended you keep at least two separate copies of all data at all times, and make a third copy if you intend to erase, or are forced to erase before doing the erasure. Time Machine on the other hand makes a non-bootable archival backup. If you delete information between backups, Carbon Copy Cloner will not show it on the next clone. You make changes, run it again, the replica is bootable with exactly the same information was there when you ran it.
